10 TV Shows We Need To See | TV

tv shows we need to see the finer things club

A couple of weeks ago, we shared 6 of our favourite TV shows with you and also asked you what television shows we should watch next. Combining some of your recommendations with television shows that we've had in mind for a while, we thought we'd share a list of 10 TV shows that we really want to start watching together soon. Feel free to leave your opinions, as well as further suggestions, in the comments below!

tv shows to watch

true detective (2014-)
the lives of two detectives, rust cohle and martin hart, become entangled during a 17-year hunt for a serial killer in louisiana.

L: True Detective hasn't been on our radar for very long, but once I was informed of the cast (the two above, in particular), the setting and the theme I knew Bee and I would have to give it a go. I find the American South fascinating and a really interesting setting. I'd love to explore up and down the US with Bee one day but, for now, the adventures remain on my TV screen.

brooklyn nine-nine (2013-)
a diverse group of detectives at the very edge of new york city.

B: This was actually recommended to us by Luke's brother so we should probably get round to watching it soon. It looks quite light and silly but we like to have a series on the go that we can marathon without too much thought, particularly when we don't want to watch something too heavy. Its got Andy Samberg in so I'm very much looking forward to it!

almost human (2013-)
in a not-so-distant future, human cops and androids partner up to protect and serve.

L: I've already made clear before that I'm a big fan of a lot of J.J. Abrams work, so when I heard about Almost Human, naturally, I was intrigued. I am a bit worried about its critical, and overall, reception so far. However, I loved Fringe, despite the low reviews, so I'm definitely going to give it a try and decide for my self!

twin peaks tv show review blog

twin peaks (1990-1991)
an idiosyncratic fbi agent investigates the murder of a young woman in the even more idiosyncratic town of twin peaks.

B: Twin Peaks is a cult classic, and I'm pretty confused as to why we haven't got round to watching it yet. It sounds creepy so I'm pretty intrigued! Lets just hope I can stop picturing Kyle Maclachlan as Orson Hodge.

x files to watch

the x-files (1993-2002)
two fbi agents, fox mulder the believer and dana scully the skeptic, investigate the strange and unexplained while hidden forces work to impede their efforts.

L: I have to say it, I have to stare reality in the face, I've only seen the first season of The X-Files, and for someone who often mentions how much of a sci-fi fan they are it's almost painful to admit. Alas, soon I will rightly correct this anomaly and delve through this cult behemoth, and hopefully Bee will join me.

luther

luther (2010-)
a crime drama series starring idris elba as a near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can't always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions.

B: Idris Elba as a murder detective?! What more could you want from a show?! I love stuff like this so hopefully it'll meet my high expectations!

house of cards

house of cards (2013-)
a congressman works with his equally conniving wife to exact revenge on the people who betrayed him.

L: All I really know about this show is that it has received a lot of critical praise but more importantly, for me, it stars Kevin Spacey. I'm sold.

its always sunny in philadelphia

it's always sunny in philadelphia (2005-)
four young friends with big egos and slightly arrogant attitudes are the proprietors of an irish bar in philadelphia.

B: I'll be honest, I have no idea what this is about or what it's like but I know a few of my friends watch it so it must be good. If the poster is anything to go by, it should be pretty awesome!

community

community (2009-)
a suspended lawyer is forced to enroll in a community college with an eclectic staff and student body.

L: Now, Bee and I have tried to watch Community before but we just couldn't get hooked. I think we watched the first two episodes. Saying that though, I have watched episodes here and there when my brother has been watching it, and they have been pretty hilarious. I think we just need to bulldoze past the first season, and see how it fares from there, especially considering we weren't convinced by the Office US straight from the off!

the following

the following (2013-)
a brilliant and charismatic, yet psychotic serial killer communicates with other active serial killers and activates a cult of believers following his every command.

B: The premise of this show sounds really interesting and right up my street considering I'm a massive Dexter fan. The only thing putting me off is Kevin Bacon...

NOW THAT YOU'VE seen which shows we want to start, teLL US...

  1. The only reason I haven't watched the Following is Kevin Bacon as well, I really don't like him. I've heard good things about House of Cards so may have to give it a watch :)

  2. This is basically my ideal list! I also keep meaning to start series and never get round to them, plus with me and Charlie living apart at the moment it's hard to coordinate watching stuff (we like to keep at the same pace so we can discuss episodes, heh). Though we have almost finished the Sopranos so it'll soon be time to pick the next thing! I'm voting House of Cards... Looking forward to seeing your reviews!

  3. How bad is it that I actually haven't heard of the majority of these shows haha! I tried watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine though and I just couldnt get in to it. Theres a few here though that sound pretty good that I'm going to have to add to my 'to watch' list - thanks for sharing :)
    Have a lovely day!

  4. Luther is fantastic! Definitely start with that one and you won't be disappointed. Another one to try is Orange is the New Black - it's brash and funny.

  5. One of the shows you could try is the New Girl starring lovely Zooey Deschanel. She is just as brilliant as she looks and I especially loved the first season for its uniqueness and quirky humor, but there is a chance that you'll get bored sometimes. Anyway it is a perfect option for lazy weekends when you just want to have a laugh.
    Have a lovely weekend :)

  6. We recently started watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine and at first I wasn't sure about it but it certainly grows on you. Especially, as you say, it's got Andy Samberg in it! We also love Community! I don't remember much about the first season but we've watched everything so far & can honestly say it's one of our faves. (The development of Troy & Abed as a duo is amazing!)

Twin Peaks and House of Cards are on our "to watch" list too :-)

  7. Almost Human is an awesome show (in to the comic book geek of a husband better than Agents of Shield) it really is a gripping show, full of emotion and certainly others something a little different. Community is one of my favorite shows, It's one of the few shows I can binge watch it for hours and was hooked from the start - it's always so funny, especially their special episodes like paintballing.

  8. I've tried to watch House of Cards & It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but I just couldn't get on with them. Twin Peaks has always been on my list to watch too! I've seen the first two seasons of Luther but have yet to watch the third (which I've been told is pretty scary!) - it's so good. Also can't wait to see True Detectives - mainly because I LOVE the Texan accent - not sure if they've changed their accents to fit Louisiana though? And you should definitely do a road trip! I went on a huge roadtrip for a month around America with my husband on the quest for the perfect American BBQ and it was amazing! And on a day-by-day basis it worked out as one of the cheapest holidays we've ever done! The petrol is so cheap out there! My favourite places we visited were Austin in Texas and Charleston in South Carolina :)
Back to TV, check out Orange is the New Black and also West Wing (but that's pretty full-on with about 8 seasons so it's a lot of time to invest!)

  9. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is probably the funniest TV show ever made. I think when watching it, you need to remember that they are all horrible people though! Danny DeVito's character is hilarious, definitely worth a watch :) x

  10. Get ready to get a boner over Audrey Horne in Twin Peaks! (or as I like to call it, The Audrey Horn)

Also I hope you enjoy Always Sunny! SO GOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDD.
